Jump-Starting Another Car

If you’re unfamiliar with how to jump start another vehicle, you can learn how to do it with some basic knowledge and a little practice. The first thing to be aware of is that each end of the jumper cables has a positive and a negative charge. The positive is marked by red and the negative is the black cable. The next thing to realize is that the other cables should not touch another metal surface once you’ve begun connecting them to a battery’s charge.

Start with the dead battery and connect the positive cable with the terminal that has a plus sign. Move on and connect the negative cable to the terminal with the minus sign. Do the same thing with the good battery. Once they’re connected, let them run for a minute or two. Rev the engine and try to start the other car. It should fire up after a couple of attempts. If it doesn’t, you should stop and take your vehicle in for service.

Stop in to Route 15 Used Car Center when you have questions about your battery’s charging system or any other aspect of your car’s maintenance. We’re here to assist you with all your concerns.
