Road trip season is upon us and that oftentimes calls for long distance driving. Driving for hours can make you sleepy but we have some tips on how to stay awake while driving.

It is important to get the proper amount of rest before hitting the road. We suggest you try and get 7-8 hours of sleep before you begin your journey. If you are unable to get a good night's sleep the night before, the following tips will come in handy:

  • Take a quick nap. If you're feeling too drowsy to continue driving, it's best to just find a safe place to pull over and take a quick power nap.
  • Eating a small snack can help you stay awake. Sunflower seeds are a great light snack.
  • Don't drive too late at night or too early in the morning. Driving during your normal waking hours.
  • Have some caffeine. A cup of coffee is a good, energizing drink.
